Workshops
All workshops take place on Friday mornings from 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM at The Pottery Studio, 24 Old Kilcullen Road, Bryanston. Cost R300.00. These are demonstrating workshops and a large amount of material is covered. It is suggested you bring a notebook to record information of interest to you.
Decorating Techniques – green and bisque ware. Covering a variety of surface treatments which can be carried out on both green ware and bisque-fired ware. Among the techniques covered are a number of resist methods, etching on raw clay, underglaze and majolica, stamping, a new method of tube lining, sponging and banding. You will also be shown how to make your own underglazes, majolica colours and ceramic crayons.
Decorating Techniques – on a fired surface. Investigating various ways of treating the glazed surface. Demonstrations include using on-glazes and lustres and various masking and application methods. Also included will be the use of decals as decoration.
Creating a Professional Image. Are you doing enough to ensure your name and your work is in the public eye? In this session we look at various ways of self promotion without investing large amounts of money! Also on the agenda is the importance of creating your ‘brand’ and positioning your work in the market.
Paperplaster; the mold making revolution. The revolutionary paperplaster method has changed my approach to mold making forever. Introduced to me by Sandra Black as taught by Trudy Golley this is an excellent introduction to basic mold making as well as a great new method for those more experienced in this area. This method uses about 30% of the amount of plaster usually used for mold making. I will also be demonstrating and demystifying slip casting .
Everything You Wanted to Know about Glazes. This workshop focuses on the practical aspects of glazing. Application methods will be discussed and demonstrated as well of methods of maintaining consistent results. Glaze on glaze decoration as well as ways of creating surfaces using a variety of techniques will be covered. You will also be introduced to line blending; a method that offers the opportunity your own glazes without any technical knowledge.
Image Transfer on Clay. Covers methods of transferring images on to your work. The making of decals and other transfer techniques using laser printers and photocopiers as well as an easy to execute Lithographic process will be covered.
